Can't get you OUT of my head
The first thing Nicola thought when she heard the words ‘brain tumour’, was ‘why me?’ What followed was a complete life change, swapping a career and social life for hospitals and surgery. After constant hurdles and complications, Nicola learnt to appreciate each day and the importance of living life to the fullest. Positivity and support from friends and family helped her confront this huge challenge.
Her story has touched me, particularly how she has courageously navigated and persevered through countless obstacles and discouraging circumstances. This journey is undoubtedly emotional, however Nicola's endurance is uplifting. Her humour enlivens the novel, along with the personal account of her travels and the accompanying cultural descriptions. Nicola's message to 'seize the day' resonates throughout the text and it is evident that she has continued to move forward with the support of her loving extended family and friends. An inspiring story. – Dr Stefania Velardo, PhD
" I was moved to tears, laughter, admiration and amazement by Nicola's recount of her story so far. I particularly loved reading about Nicola's travels, the connections made, and the wonderful relationship with her parents and sister. I admire the tenacity and strength that Nicola has shown and her amazing ability to see the positive.
Nicola has set a beautiful example of perseverance and choosing to live life. " – Trigona, 7 April 2016
"A tale of courage, inspiration and the bright light of the soul. I salute Nicola Catalano and commend her beautiful book". – Peter Goers OAM, ABC Radio
Nicola’s entire lifestyle changed quite dramatically, after celebrating her 30th Birthday in 2002, when she was diagnosed with a pituitary gland tumour. Soon after this, her life seemed to become one full of tests, hospitals, specialists, surgery, radiotherapy and even chemotherapy. She had a career as a secondary school teacher, teaching English, Drama and History. Unfortunately, this soon ceased, as her focus was on her tumour and trying to recover from this whole experience. The idea of life being too short became a stark reality after all she experienced.
Nicola is so thankful and appreciates all the things she did when she was well, like travelling overseas, as she just can’t imagine ever doing that again. So, please join Nicola on her journey through this difficult time and read how she dealt with such a major health issue and all the complications she endured.
