My Grandpa has Dementia

June Pagliaccio
Maxine Stewart

It’s not a fun topic but dementia is affecting more and more families and this book takes younger children on a picture and rhyming-verse journey through the most common symptoms.

Parents can use the book as a basis to explain how a family member suffering from the illness may be changing in their personality and behaviour.
It emphasises the importance of child and grandparent interaction while this is still possible.

The memories created will stay with the grandchild forever.

These days, Tasmanian-born Maxine Stewart lives on Queensland’s Southern Downs with her husband and their two miniature dachshunds.

After many years in the publishing industry, Maxine and her paramedic husband made a tree-change from the Gold Coast to a quieter rural setting where she has been able to concentrate on her love of the visual arts.

Having met in the workplace 20 years ago, Maxine and June have remained firm friends and she was more than happy when June asked her to illustrate her book, My Grandpa Has Dementia. Maxine believes this book will make a difficult situation a little easier by helping grandchild and grandparent maintain a close relationship.
