Nine Pieces of Zen

Wide Ocean

This book is about Zen before it became Zen. It explores the original “no-mind” teachings of early Zen Buddhism as they evolved in T’ang Dynasty China during the 8th and 9th centuries. It also looks at the philosophical origins of Zen as part of the living tradition of Mahayana Buddhism.

About the Author

Wide Ocean (dharma name) has had a longstanding interest in Buddhist philosophy and metaphysics. In his younger days he practiced Zen meditation in Zen halls in Korea and Japan. He has maintained a simple daily zen practice as a layman for over 30 years.
