A Sprig of Rosemary |
Laurel Gray |
This is a story of the courage and determination with which Rosemary met her many challenges. She was born with a rare form of small stature.
It is the story of a child and woman who was strong, brave, intelligent, talented and practical; and the impact she had on many lives. A story of sadness and humour and faith.
Laurel Gray was born and schooled in Sydney New South Wales. She spent the first 17 years of her marriage to Rev Laurence Gray in the south coast of Papua New Guinea where they worked among the Papuan people as missionaries and raised their three sons and one adopted son.
Laurel’s interest in recording the stories of remarkable people led to the publishing of her biography of Sinabada, Woman among Warriors. The story of Rev Sue Rankin who arrived in Papua from Wales in 1928. Sue was a wonderful mentor to Laurel’s husband Rev, Laurence Gray from the time he arrived in the Rigo district in 1956.
When the Gray family returned to live in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney at the end of 1973 Laurel got to know Laurie’s youngest sister Rosemary again and was moved to record the story of this remarkable young woman. The result is A Sprig of Rosemary.
