My Second Chance |
Gary Bennett |
If you slam into a telegraph pole driving at 120 kms an hour, the chances are it will change you forever.
Gary Bennett was 52, at the peak of his fashion industry career in Australia, when doctors told his family he would certainly die. But instead he survived — with a massive brain injury.
26 years later, Gary is living proof the brain can heal, albeit slowly. Functions lost or damaged — speech, memory, emotion, motor coordination — can be improved with hard work, determination, hope, and love. Gary’s family, especially his wife Julie, have supported him with unwavering devotion and courage.
Today, Gary counts himself a happy man, and a fortunate one. This is his story, and an inspirational guide to others recovering from life-threatening brain trauma. His vision: to help others with brain injuries. His advice: Never give up!
Gary Bennett writes with the index finger of his left hand. His life changed forever after a car accident at age 52 when he died twice on the roadside, and was in a coma for seven weeks. His family was told he would not live. With courage, resilience, and an unwavering positive attitude, Gary not only survived, but recovered many of the functions that were lost. He welcomes this second chance at life and shares his story to help others recovering from brain injury.
