Midnight at OASIS

Trevor Fearnley

Midnight at OASIS is the unusual story of a young man from a well-to-do English family, who on being expelled from boarding school at sixteen, decides to take charge of his own life.
Told with endearing honesty, Trevor Fearnley’s journey takes us along a path strewn with some unexpectedly funny but frequently challenging obstacles, which he overcomes with ingenuity, hard work and incredible luck.
At the age of twenty-one with his wife by his side, he makes the decision to come to Australia as a ten pound Pom and embraces a new life in his adopted home.
Refusing to just sit back and enjoy his success as a businessman, he dedicates invaluable time and endless energy into raising millions of dollars for good causes including OASIS, a haven for homeless young people.
This is a story about making a difference in life and leaving behind a legacy.

“I have known Trevor Fearnley for many years. He is one of the few successful businessmen I know who not only digs deep into his own pocket, but is also involved in the management and organisation of many charities - from The Salvation Army to the Scout Movement. I ‘dips me lid’ to Trevor Fearnley. Enjoy his story.”

“How do you put into a few lines the admiration that one has for a man who has changed the lives of many. Trevor has a humility about his talents and a passion for assisting others. His personal generosity, and that of his time and knowledge is endless. Trevor’s outstanding gift is to enthuse others so that the initiative which he starts lives on and continues to prosper. Australia is very lucky he chose to call ‘Australia Home’.”

Having recently moved into the 'not-for-profit' sector, and as part of getting myself 'up-to-speed', I read Trevor Fearnley's 'Midnight at Oasis'. I can highly recommend it as an interesting and easy-to-read hybrid of personal memoir, historical snapshot and charity background/ 'how to' guide. You'll particulalry enjoy it if you; are a Pom who's migrated to Australia, have been to English public school, have worked in advertising, are planning on working in the NfP sector or if you've come across Trevor in any of these fields (disclaimer, I tick all of these boxes). And it looks like it's been discounted for Christmas too! - Paul
