The Wonderful Things We No Longer Use

Throughout history, people have invented machines, devices, and contrivances to improve all aspects of our lives. Over time many of these have disappeared from our everyday world.

This delightful coffee table book showcases 50 beautiful images of these wonderful things from our past and shares a little history of each item. It invites you on an engaging journey of discovery, transporting you back to where these objects may once have resided years before. Inside, you will find vibrant photographs of these once-everyday items from the 1800s to the 1960s, from the elegant to the unusual, things used by storytellers, singers, shopkeepers, and spies.

About the Author

Damien Lewis

Damien Lewis has a passion for photography, antiques, and history. Born in Hobart, Tasmania, and with a career in Information Technology, he discovered photography almost 20 years ago. While travelling in France with the band Claymore, just before walking on stage one of the guys threw him a camera and said, “See if you can get some good shots”. From there, he enrolled in a photography course, joined a local photographic society and has gone on to win awards up to national level. As an antique collector, Damien understands the warm feeling of nostalgia we get when connecting with these relics from our past. He enjoys discovering new objects and uncovering their heritage. Having travelled extensively, Damien has also lived in London, Honolulu, and New York City. This has allowed him to explore many amazing places first-hand, which fuelled his interest in their history. He also enjoys exploring local historical sites and is a member of the National Trust of Australia.
